About Currentsmap
Currentsmap is an independent economic intelligence platform that visualizes the hidden relationships driving global finance. We build tools that make macroeconomics legible to anyone curious enough to look.
We track currency flows, oil leverage networks, Federal Reserve transmission effects, inflation export patterns, and the slow structural drift away from dollar dominance — not as abstract concepts but as interactive, data-driven maps you can explore yourself.
Currentsmap is not affiliated with any financial institution, government, or political organization. Our data sources are publicly available and cited on each tool page. Our analysis is our own.
Built by Joseph Lancaster
Currentsmap was built by Joseph Lancaster, a developer and entrepreneur based in Burbank, California with 25+ years of experience in web development, AI systems, and financial technology.
Joseph's background spans tax resolution technology, AI-powered business intelligence, and economic data visualization. He is the founder of Verified, Inc. and the developer of several AI-powered platforms including PineNeedle.ai, a daily intelligence platform covering 25 industries.
Currentsmap grew out of a single morning of reading about the petrodollar system and realizing that the tools to visualize these relationships either didn't exist or were locked behind institutional paywalls. It was built in a day. It will keep growing.
Joseph built Currentsmap because he believes economic literacy is a public good. The relationships this platform maps — between currencies, oil, central bank decisions, and the everyday cost of living — affect every person on earth. Most people never get to see them.
Data and methodology
Currentsmap uses the following public data sources:
- European Central Bank (ECB) via Frankfurter.dev — daily forex reference rates
- US Federal Reserve (FRED) — M2 money supply, Fed Funds Rate history
- IEA (International Energy Agency) — oil trade flows by country
- World Bank — CPI data by country
- BIS (Bank for International Settlements) — capital flows and reserve currency data
- Reuters, AP, Bloomberg — news source attribution on all news articles
Historical propagation data, contagion correlations, and leverage scores are modeled approximations based on these sources and academic literature. They are explicitly labeled as such on each tool page. We do not represent modeled data as primary source data.
